Rice Grabs #6 of Season at Spartan
By: Dave DeHem
Chance Rice moved into the season long points lead in the Turbo Blue Michigan Legends Series this past Friday night when the series made a stop at “The Track the Stars Call Home” Spartan Speedway in Mason, Michigan.
Rice would take his sixth feature win of the 2011 season and edged closer to his second season championship in the series.
Heat races were the first order of business with heat race number one going to none other than Chance Rice over the ageless veteran, Rick Kilbourn and two time series champ, John Turnbull Jr.. The second of three heat races went to the three time series champion Levi Rouster over Bryan Nuckles and Matt Todd. Heat race number three went to Tony Monge followed by Sean McPherson and second generation driver Josh Indig.
18 fast machines would answer the call for the 30 lap feature race which saw Chance Rice start the race in the eleventh spot due to his win the prior week as the last races winner starts one spot behind the invert. John Turnbull Jr. would lead the first 21 circuits until Rice who was working his way through traffic to get the lead on the 22nd go round and hold it through some late race cautions and re-starts to the end of the race. John Turnbull Jr. would finish second to Rice for the second week in a row after battling Tony Monge for the second spot while the brothers Rouster, Ben and Levi would round out the top five after staging their own battle to see which brother could finish ahead of the other. Sean McPherson, Matt Todd, Rick Kilbourn, Cody Falkner, and Guy Fire rounded out the top ten.
The turbo Blue Michigan Legends will have a week off before heading back to the Owosso speedway on August 27, 2011 for a full program of heat races and a 30 lap feature on the high banked 3/8 mile speedway. The last race at Owosso saw the same finish as at Spartan between Rice and Turnbull but Turnbull is edging ever closer to moving the 36 of Rice back to second spot. So come on out to the Owosso Speedway for some great Legends Car racing with the Turbo Blue Michigan legends Series.
